Site Visit Procedures
Purpose
The site visit provides two opportunities:
- Through site visits, ACP has contact with the participating high schools and offers support to their teachers and their students.
- Also, ACP visits facilitate communication among the site site visitor, the teacher, ACP students, and school personnel between the school and the university.
Planning
The site visitor contacts the high school teacher to set up a time for the visit. Time is mutually arranged for teacher/site visitor discussion prior to or following class. Prior to the actual visit:
- Site visitor reviews the current syllabus and the previous reports.
- Teacher prepares a packet to include:
- a set of graded papers
- sample tests, lab reports, projects, portfolios
- class handouts, packets, etc.
- Teacher makes the high school administrators aware of the site visit.
- Teacher notifies the high school main office that a visit will take place if special arrangements for entry, identification, etc., are necessary.
- Teacher notifies the site visitor regarding door entry, parking, lunch, etc., as applicable.
Visitation
The site visitor arrives early at the high school and reports to the main office to sign-in and offer greetings to the school officials.
- Site visitor should wear or carry some form of identification.
- Teacher introduces the site visitor.
- Site visitor observes the lesson and engages with the students as appropriate.
- At the end of the lesson, the site visitor talks to the students as a class or individually and answers student questions.
Follow-up
The site visitor talks with the teacher following the visit. The discussion should include:
- classroom atmosphere
- teacher/student interaction
- quality of student performance
- instructional strategies & evaluation
- recommendations
- teacher questions and concerns
