Use of ACP Resources
Book Allowance
As a part of the summer seminar for new teachers, ACP offers teachers a $100 book and materials allowance to be used at the teacher's discretion in purchasing books or other materials that would assist in teaching the ACP course. This book allowance need not be used up at the time of the summer seminar; teachers can continue to order books until the $100 budget is depleted. Any purchases to enrich an instructor's professional library must be made through the ACP office. Note: Teachers cannot be reimbursed for a book they have purchased by submitting the receipt to the ACP office. For information, call the ACP office at (812) 855-7912 or e-mail acp@indiana.edu.
IU Main Library
ACP teachers may find it important for students in their ACP courses to use the library at Indiana University. A visit allows students who are working on a particular project related to their ACP course to have access to and use resources that may not be available at their high school library or local library. In addition, it provides students the opportunity to experience the campus setting and become familiar with IU's library information system.
The ACP and the library staff at Indiana University want to ensure that teachers and students have a positive experience during the visit to IU's library and campus. So that we are able to effectively and efficiently provide that service, ACP instructors requesting library visits need to:
- Plan in advance. Planning the visit at least three weeks in advance of the requested dates is critical to ensure that needs are accommodated. However, the more advanced the notice is, the more likely the visit can be scheduled for the preferred date and time.
Remember: December may be a more difficult time for the IU library staff to accommodate any requests because of end of the semester responsibilities and final exam schedules. An early December arrangement is preferable to later in the month.
To request a library visit to IU Bloomington, please contact the ACP office at (812) 855-7912 or acp@indiana.edu. Library visits to another IU campus should be arranged by contacting that IU regional campus library directly. - Indicate Date/Time. Select at least three possible dates for the library visit; indicate a preference for morning or afternoon; and provide the approximate time of arrival and departure.
- Request Parking Arrangements (IUB only). Bus drivers may drop-off and pick-up ACP instructors and students in the parking area south of the IU Library. If the ACP group is small and travel will be in cars, it is necessary to request a temporary parking permit. Please request a parking permit from the ACP office at least three weeks prior to the scheduled visit so this permit can be mailed well in advance of the visit.
- Submit Student Information to the IU library staff contact a week prior to the library visit:
- Provide the number of students visiting the library. (NOTE: If there are more than 10 students in the group, an additional person is required to accompany the teacher.);
- Indicate if students will be borrowing books. If so, the library will need to prepare borrower cards ahead of time. The following information must be provided in advance so that students may check out books at the IU library:
- student name;
- home address;
- telephone number
- student’s U.S. Social Security number (optional);
- Indicate if students will need access to copying services; and
- Provide general topics that students will be working with.
